FEASSSA’s first Schools Sports Symposium took place in Arusha, Tanzania

Arusha, 5 September 2019 - The 18th edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games 2019 was preceded by the inaugural Schools Sports Symposium. ISF was represented by ISF Sports Director Mr Josip Kosutic.

The Schools Sports Symposium was held under the leadership of Mr Justus Mugisha, ISF technical commission football president, the president of FEASSSA and vice president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), at Fun Treat Hotel on 19 August 2019 in Arusha, Tanzania.

FEASSSA’s member states represented were Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zanzibar and Malawi, along with the representatives from Africa School Sports Federation (ASSF) and International School Sports Federation (ISF).

The symposium was presided over by ISF Sports Director Mr Josip Kosutic, as the chief guest, West Zone President of ASSF Mr Ayadokoun Smith, as Special Guest (representing ASSF), heads of delegations from member states of East Africa, government representatives from Line Ministry of Education and political representatives (members of parliament on Social Sector and Educational Committee from Uganda).

The objectives of the Schools Sports Symposium were to share experience with National Schools Sports Associations on the following topics; structure and governance, organisation and management of competitions, sources and management of funds, cooperation with ASSF and ISF and its programs and activities.

The conclusion was that in the future all member countries of ASSF East Zone will synchronize schools competitions, rules and regulations and uniform organization and management of School Sport to raise the bar and strengthen to development of School Sport in Africa.
